How to Defeat Satan

Spread the love

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12

Whether you believe it or not, there’s a battle raging fiercely between two powers, and we are not just spectators but players. This battle decides the eternal destiny of each of us. This means we should really be concerned about this war.

Let’s look at how we can win this battle, because one mighty Person among the two powers is ALREADY A Victor. To win the battle, one must be on the winning side.

Invite the winner into your life

Jesus already victorious, but became victorious again when He died and arose from death. Death couldn’t hold the Righteous judge in his grave. For this reason, Satan turned his full anger on the people who are now following the mighty Conqueror, JESUS CHRIST.

Satan fought against Jesus firstly in Heaven, but the Son of God and His angels overcame Satan and his sympathizers. When Jesus became the son of man too, the devil fought against Him till death, but again Jesus overcame the devil.

And there was war in heaven:  Michael and his angels fought against the dragon;  and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 And prevailed not;  neither was their place found any more in heaven.   9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world:  he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Revelation 12:7-9

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life:  he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die.   Believest thou this? John 11:25-26

So, if we can also be victorious, we have to enlist ourselves under the banner of Prince Emmanuel. We can do so by accepting His invitation( we are not even inviting Him because He has already been knocking at our doors for a long time). We only need to accept Him and let Him come into our lives.

When we do this, then we are already heading towards victory through Christ our LORD Jesus.

Confess your sins and acknowledge your helplessness

Now you have invited Jesus in your life, your vilest enemy, Satan is very furious that you’ve changed sides. Now he will hold a meeting with his evil angels. They’re all angry and they decide to use of the billions of billions temptations they have been using for over six thousand years to lead many into perdition. This tool he’ll be using now is fear. The devil would make you believe you are unworthy to approach the throne of God. He will remind you of your vilest crimes and secret sins you have committed, telling you God would not accept you. It is at this moment you have to rebuke the enemy with thus saith the LORD: “And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan;  even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee:  is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?” Zechariah 1:2

You are not the only who would or has face this temptation. Joshua, the chosen of God faced this same accusation from Satan, but the King of kings came to his rescue.

We are to come to the throne of Grace just as we are and the LORD will refine us.

The inspired servant of God( Ellen G White ) put it this way:

The Bible does not teach that the sinner must repent before he can heed the invitation of Christ, “Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28. It is the virtue that goes forth from Christ, that leads to genuine repentance. Peter made the matter clear in his statement to the Israelites when he said, “Him hath God exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.” Acts 5:31. We can no more repent without the Spirit of Christ to awaken the conscience than we can be pardoned without Christ. {SC 26.2}

Christ is the source of every right impulse. He is the only one that can implant in the heart enmity against sin. Every desire for truth and purity, every conviction of our own sinfulness, is an evidence that His Spirit is moving upon our hearts. {SC 26.3}

Man was originally endowed with noble powers and a well-balanced mind. He was perfect in his being, and in harmony with God. His thoughts were pure, his aims holy. But through disobedience, his powers were perverted, and selfishness took the place of love. His nature became so weakened through transgression that it was impossible for him, in his own strength, to resist the power of evil. He was made captive by Satan, and would have remained so forever had not God specially interposed. It was the tempter’s purpose to thwart the divine plan in man’s creation, and fill the earth with woe and desolation. And he would point to all this evil as the result of God’s work in creating man. . {SC 17.1}

It is impossible for us, of ourselves, to escape from the pit of sin in which we are sunken. Our hearts are evil, and we cannot change them. “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.” “The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” Job 14:4; Romans 8:7. Education, culture, the exercise of the will, human effort, all have their proper sphere, but here they are powerless.

They may produce an outward correctness of behavior, but they cannot change the heart; they cannot purify the springs of life. There must be a power working from within, a new life from above, before men can be changed from sin to holiness. That power is Christ. His grace alone can quicken the lifeless faculties of the soul, and attract it to God, to holiness. {SC 18.1}

Shall we not regard the mercy of God? What more could He do? Let us place ourselves in right relation to Him who has loved us with amazing love. Let us avail ourselves of the means provided for us that we may be transformed into His likeness, and be restored to fellowship with the ministering angels, to harmony and communion with the Father and the Son.{SC 22.1}

Asking for help daily

One thing about Satan is he never grow weary or get disappointed in achieving his evil purposes against God’s people. When he sees you are justified and your sins are forgiven, his next target is to bring to you your past sinful desires and practices in a more vivid and forceful way. If alcohol was your problem he will find every ways and means to bring alcohol near you, either by physical means, through television and other medium. When this happens, don’t be afraid but memorize the scripture so that you can counteract the devil’s plotting with “thus saith the LORD”. Cry unto God daily. Ask for strength to face the day’s trials and temptations. The LORD will strengthen you to defeat Satan

Nothing can be more helpless and yet more invincible than the soul that feels its nothingness, and relies wholly upon the merits of a crucified and risen Saviour. God would send every angel in heaven to the aid of the one who places his whole dependence on Christ, rather than allow him to be overcome. {ST, January 12, 1915 par. 9}

Resist the devil and he will flee!

Every time you resist the devil and doesn’t listen to his insulations, he must flee! He must run far away because God’s mighty angels would be protecting you because you CHOSE to obey the LORD and resist Satan. However, his fleeing last a very short time and he comes back with even fiercest temptations. This is the time you have to ask God for more strength to resist the enemy of souls. Humanity alone can never overcome the darts of Satan, but humanity seeking strength from a higher power is our only hope.

It is impossible for us, of ourselves, to escape from the pit of sin in which we are sunken. Our hearts are evil, and we cannot change them. “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.” “The carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.” Job 14:4; Romans 8:7. Education, culture, the exercise of the will, human effort, all have their proper sphere, but here they are powerless. They may produce an outward correctness of behavior, but they cannot change the heart; they cannot purify the springs of life. There must be a power working from within, a new life from above, before men can be changed from sin to holiness. That power is Christ. His grace alone can quicken the lifeless faculties of the soul, and attract it to God, to holiness. {SC 18.1}

Pray. Pray. Pray!

Finally my brethren, pray without ceasing because your enemy is roaming about seeking whom he may devour. He doesn’t get tired and he does not fear assaults or insults. He doesn’t fear guns, whipping, or whatever ignorant and dumb false pastors would lead their flock to believe. He fears no wrist band or anointing oil, neither does he fear pilgrimage, or indulgences. The only THING He fears is PRAYER. Even when the weakest and most fragile Christian opens his mouth to pray and ask strength from God, the whole host of Satan flee away!! Prayer is the key. Jesus always prayed and was victorious. He has left the perfect pattern for us to follow. Fear evil, obey God’s law and pray without ceasing. The LORD be with you and strengthen in your fierce battle you are fighting daily against the host of darkness. And Through CHRIST We are MORE THAN CONQUERORS!!

We cannot depend upon form or external machinery. What we need is the quickening influence of the Holy Spirit of God. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord of Hosts.” Pray without ceasing, and watch by working in accordance with your prayers. As you pray, believe, trust in God. It is the time of the latter rain, when the Lord will give largely of his Spirit. Be fervent in prayer, and watch in the Spirit. {RH, March 2, 1897 par. 14}

You have a duty to do, from which you cannot be excused. Maintain a close walk with God. Pray without ceasing. You will have close work if you save your soul. {PH099 39.2}

Brethren, be on guard. Keep burnished for action the weapons of your warfare, which is the Word of God. Pray, believe, and walk humbly with God, and let all your prayers be without ceasing, that God shall be glorified. Make a most earnest effort to call to Battle Creek the very best ministerial talent, men of experience in the early days of the message, men who will give the trumpet a certain sound. Hold the fort. Do not let it be taken by those who have placed themselves decidedly in a position of opposition to the truth which God has given us for these last days. {10MR 62.2}

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.   11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.   12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.   13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.   14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;  15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.   17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:  18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints
